Overview; The history of Australian Pre-Decimal Banknotes 1913-1936. King George V reign represented a significant time in Australian currency history. In 1923 he became the first monarch to feature on Australian Commonwealth bank issue. In 1910 the “Bank Notes Act” was passed as an act of parliament establishing The Commonwealth Bank of Australia to issue and regulate currency.
There were three note series under King George V: The Treasury (1913-1923). Gold Series (1923 – 1933) and lastly Legal Tender Series (1933 – 1938)
